The busy and attractive looking stall offers a wide range of flowering garden plants, shrubs, herbs, vegetable seedlings and indoor plants. All plants are very affordable as prices start at £1 for the smaller pots. The stall is open at every Wallington Farmer’s Market with Jerusalem artichokes an extra offer in January, February and March and a wide selection of garden plants from March onwards. December is all about our Christmas wreaths in different styles and sizes.
The stall is a labour of love as it is completely run by volunteers. From growing, potting, watering to making the labels and selling – a whole range of people is involved. All income from the plants sold goes back to Ecolocal’s not-for-profit community allotment in Carshalton where the life of many of the herbs and plants start. At the allotments the herbs, vegetables and strawberry plants are grown organically with harvested rainwater. The plant beds are made from reused and repurposed materials and there is even a compost toilet. If you are interested in helping out and learning more about growing vegetables see the community allotments info page.
Many of the indoor and outdoor plants are donated cuttings that are propagated either in volunteers’ gardens or the greenhouse in the walled garden next to EcoLocal’s office. Donations are always welcome! These can be dropped off at the market or at EcoLocal.
