Join this full-day workshop with basketmaker Halina Ward and make a decorative bowl with local flag iris leaves.
Halina will be teaching a looped coiled basketry technique that originates in Northeastern Poland, where rye straw was used to make decorative containers, including grain storage vessels, vases and small baskets. Weโll be working mainly with flag iris leaves, though Halina will also bring samples of other garden-grown plant fibres to try out.
Youโll leave with a pretty bowl, and the know-how to make more in your own time.
All materials provided.
NB: the technique is suitable for complete beginners but does require a little bit of manual dexterity. It might not be right for you if you have joint problems in your hands โ particularly your left thumb (if right-handed) or your right thumb (if left-handed).
