Microgreens and Sprouting: Saturday 30th May 2026

There is something quietly satisfying in the early stages of growth—the moment when a seed begins to declare itself, not yet fully formed, but already rich with promise. Microgreens occupy this fleeting stage, small and tender, yet densely packed with flavour and nourishment. It is perhaps surprising how many familiar plants can be enjoyed in this way: pea shoots, sunflower, garlic chives, nasturtium—each offering its own distinct character.

Sprouts, by contrast, are grown simply in water, their entire form—root, shoot and seed—edible. They are modest in appearance but remarkably sustaining, bringing a freshness that feels both immediate and complete.

This workshop offers an opportunity to consider these two forms of growth more closely: how they differ, what they offer, and how easily they can be cultivated at home. It is as much about understanding as it is about doing.

The session will include:
• A practical introduction to growing microgreens and sprouts
• A microgreens grow-your-own kit to take home
• The chance to taste a variety of samples and explore seeds
• Time for questions, along with tips and straightforward advice

The workshop is led by Hamsey Greens, well known to many as regular traders at the Wallington Farmers’ Market.

Held at The Lodge, Honeywood Walk, Carshalton
Saturday 30th May 2026
10am – 1pm
Great for groups as well as individuals. For more info and booking details visit www.ecolocal.org.uk/uncategorized/growing-micro-greens/

24th April – Shakespeare and England’s Trees
Here’s a talk with a difference! What trees grew in Shakespeare’s England, and what was happening to them? How do the worlds of Shakespeare’s stage and the English countryside relate? Our speaker, Hannah Leigh is a researcher working at Shakespeare’s Globe with an MA in Shakespeare Studies from King’s College London.

Friday evening events start at 7.30pm (arrive from 7.10pm) at the ‘Garden Hall, The Lodge, Honeywood Walk, Carshalton SM5 3NX. Please arrive in plenty of time for the talk to start at 7.30.

Here’s a talk with a difference—one that invites us to step into both the world of William Shakespeare and the landscapes that shaped it.
Carshalton EcoFair
Good folk, attend!

On Friday the 24th of April, within the Garden Hall, we present a discourse most rare—of William Shakespeare and England’s trees.

What oaks stood tall in his day? What willows wept? How did the forest and the field shape the poet’s pen, and find their way upon his stage? From Arden’s shade to Birnam Wood’s stirring, we shall wander through a landscape where nature and drama entwine.

Our guide for the evening is Hannah Leigh of Shakespeare’s Globe, a scholar well-versed in these leafy matters.

Join us at the Garden Hall, Ecolocal, The Lodge, Honeywood Walk, where doors open at 7.10pm, and the talk begins at 7.30pm. Pray arrive in good time, that thou may’st be seated with ease.

Entry is but £4, which includes tea and coffee to warm both hand and spirit.
Come, whether thou lov’st playhouse or countryside, and discover how trees once spoke through verse.

An evening of wit, wonder, and woodland awaits.
