Microgreens and Sprouting: Saturday 30th May 2026
There is something quietly satisfying in the early stages of growth—the moment when a seed begins to declare itself, not yet fully formed, but already rich with promise. Microgreens occupy this fleeting stage, small and tender, yet densely packed with flavour and nourishment. It is perhaps surprising how many familiar plants can be enjoyed in this way: pea shoots, sunflower, garlic chives, nasturtium—each offering its own distinct character.
Sprouts, by contrast, are grown simply in water, their entire form—root, shoot and seed—edible. They are modest in appearance but remarkably sustaining, bringing a freshness that feels both immediate and complete.
This workshop offers an opportunity to consider these two forms of growth more closely: how they differ, what they offer, and how easily they can be cultivated at home. It is as much about understanding as it is about doing.
The session will include:
• A practical introduction to growing microgreens and sprouts
• A microgreens grow-your-own kit to take home
• The chance to taste a variety of samples and explore seeds
• Time for questions, along with tips and straightforward advice
The workshop is led by Hamsey Greens, well known to many as regular traders at the Wallington Farmers’ Market.
