It’s Wallington Farmers’ Market this Saturday and I’m really looking forward to being back.

After all the grey weather lately, it feels good to get outside, wander around the stalls, chat to the producers and take everything in.

There is something really uplifting about a market morning, fresh air, good conversations and so many lovely local produce in one place.

The forecast is dry, let’s hope it stays that way. It will be a bit colder though, with temperatures dropping to around 3 degrees, so definitely wrap up warm.

I’ll be there with Just Be Natural - natural skincare and aromatherapy blends.

And if Mother’s Day is still on your to-do list, I’ll have some ready-wrapped gift ideas to make things simple.

If you’d like to collect an order at the market just place it online and choose Click & Collect at Wallington Farmers’ Market.

Hope to see some familiar faces and meet some new ones too.

✨ A Saturday Morning to Savour – Wallington Farmers’ Market ✨

On Saturday 14th March, something rather lovely awaits at the Wallington Farmers' Market. From 9am to 1pm, the space around the Old Town Hall and Library Gardens will come alive with the irresistible sights, scents and sounds of a truly special market morning.

With Mother's Day just around the corner, it’s the perfect moment to find a thoughtful little treasure. Perhaps artisan chocolates wrapped with care, soothing organic aromatherapy skincare, delicate handmade jewellery, a beautiful craft gift, softly scented candles… or even a favourite bottle to make her smile.

Wander between the stalls and you’ll discover the very best of local produce. Crisp Kent apples and pears, free-range eggs and poultry, grass-fed beef, and a tempting array of delicious foods made with skill and passion — organic breads still fragrant from the oven, giant cookies, jewel-bright fruit preserves, fiery chilli sauces, golden pies, rich artisan cheeses, Middle Eastern dips and remarkable speciality mushrooms.

Outside, the promise of spring will be waiting in trays of beautiful flowering plants — perfect for brightening a garden after winter’s rest.

This month we are also delighted to welcome Youth Enterprise, showcasing the energy and imagination of young local entrepreneurs.

And drifting through it all, the warm notes of live jazz in the Library Garden — the perfect soundtrack as you browse, linger, and perhaps pause for conversation with friends. And we will have the wonderful Brook Choir singing a range of popular songs.

So come along, take your time, support local producers, and let the simple pleasures of a spring market morning work their quiet magic. 🌸

As evening falls in Carshalton, join us this Friday 27th Feb 7.30pm to explore the story of a river that has shaped our community for centuries. What’s really happening to the River Wandle — and why should we care?
Carshalton EcoFair
As evening falls over Carshalton and the light begins to soften, Surrey Organic Gardeners invite you to gather for a special exploration of one of our most remarkable local treasures.

🌿 Friday 27th February – 7.30pm
(Arrive from 7.15pm)
📍 Garden Hall, The Lodge, Honeywood Walk, Carshalton SM5 3NX
🎟 £4 on the door (cash or card) – including tea, coffee and biscuits
Open to all – simply turn up.

On this particular Friday evening, our focus turns to the quiet, persistent force that flows through our landscape: the River Wandle.

In “Wandle: River at Risk”, Bobby Dean introduces and presents his documentary exploring the river’s rich history, the challenges it now faces, and the conservation efforts working to secure its future.

For centuries, the Wandle has shaped industry, supported wildlife, and connected communities. Yet today, like so many natural habitats, it faces mounting pressures from pollution and environmental strain.

This evening offers more than a film. It is an opportunity to understand the delicate balance of a living river — and to discuss the measures being taken, and those still needed, to protect it. There will be time for questions, conversation, and shared reflection.

Join us on Friday 27th February.
Discover the story of a river.
And consider the role we all play in its survival. 🌊

There are chocolates too, wrapped in promise. Small bottles of fragrant oils and creams. Thoughtful Fair Trade treasures waiting to be chosen. And a neat parade of well-loved tools, each with a story still to tell....

Everything you ever wanted to know about currants, but were afraid you’d cut the wrong bit...
Carshalton EcoFair
Currants are small, but they make up for it by being very keen. Blackcurrants, redcurrants, gooseberries and jostaberries all turn up with the same message: give us a bit of attention and we’ll look after you for years.

If you’ve ever stood in a supermarket holding a tiny punnet and thinking “how can these cost this much?”, this workshop is for you.

On Saturday 28th February (10.30am–3pm), we’re hosting a wonderfully practical Currant Growing & Winter Pruning workshop at Carshalton Community Allotment. Led by our RHS-qualified fruit grower (who really does know where to cut and where not to), you’ll learn:
• how to grow and care for different currants
• how to prune them properly (without panicking)
• how to deal with pests and diseases without reaching for the chemicals

And this isn’t just watching someone else do it — you’ll be pruning real bushes, with plenty of blackcurrants, redcurrants and gooseberries to practise on.

£39 for the day, or £60 if you book this and our summer pruning workshop in June (because currants like consistency).

📍 Carshalton Community Allotment, SM5 2PW
📅 Saturday 28th February 2026
🔗 Details & booking: www.ecolocalgardeningschool.uk

You’ll go home slightly muddy, much more confident — and never look at a currant the same way again
