This Saturday 9th May – Wallington Farmers’ Market is ready to tempt you…

Some mornings are made for sensible errands. Others are made for lingering a little longer, indulging your senses, and giving in to temptation. From 9am till 1pm around the Old Town Hall and Library Gardens, Wallington Farmers’ Market promises exactly that kind of morning.

Wander between stalls overflowing with fresh seasonal vegetables, succulent fresh Kent strawberries, warm home baked treats, free-range eggs, rich cheeses, artisan mushrooms and beautifully crafted local produce. Sample small-batch beers—including two irresistible new arrivals: a crisp rice lager and a dangerously flirtatious yuzu rice lager—alongside a pale ale with just enough bite to keep things interesting.

There’ll be natural skincare, handmade crafts, poultry, meat, sweet indulgences and plenty more besides. Local traders. Friendly conversation. A deliciously relaxed atmosphere. The sort of place where one purchase somehow turns into many.

And then… the Plant Sale Bonanza.

The plant stall this Saturday is positively overflowing with temptation: flowering annuals and perennials, herbs, tomatoes, sweet peppers, chilli plants, salvias, rockery plants and ground cover—all hardened off, thriving, and more than ready to be taken home and admired properly.

The best part? Every plant sold helps support our community food growing project. So you can feel virtuous while surrendering entirely to impulse.

And if you’re still not quite ready for the morning to end, why not drift round the corner to the Carshalton & Wallington Art Group Spring Exhibition at the United Reformed Church on Stanley Park Road. Original local artwork, free entry, and just enough culture to complete a thoroughly satisfying Saturday.

There is something quietly satisfying about growing your own food — especially when it happens right on your windowsill.

Microgreens may be small, but they are remarkably powerful. Harvested at the seedling stage, they are rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, often in higher concentrations than their fully grown equivalents. Alongside sprouts — germinated seeds eaten whole, root and all — they offer an easy, flavourful way to support a healthier diet without fuss or expense.

If you’ve ever thought about trying this at home, this workshop offers a warm and practical introduction.

Microgreens and Sprouting Workshop, Saturday 30th May 2026, 10am – 1pm, The Lodge, Honeywood Walk, Carshalton SM5 3NX

Led by Hamsey Greens, a familiar and trusted presence at Wallington Farmers’ Market, the session is designed to be both informative and hands-on.

You can expect:

A clear explanation of the difference between microgreens and sprouts
Insight into their nutritional benefits and how they support everyday health
A practical growing session to build your confidence
A microgreens “grow your own” kit to take home
Opportunities to taste a variety of fresh samples
Seeds available to purchase
Time for questions, tips and informal advice

From pea shoots and sunflower to garlic chives and nasturtium, you may be surprised at just how much can be grown in a small space — and how much flavour and nourishment they bring.

This is an ideal way to take a gentle step towards healthier eating, while learning a skill you can carry on at home.

Places are limited. More info and booking at https://www.ecolocal.org.uk/uncategorized/growing-micro-greens/

Microgreens and Sprouting: Saturday 30th May 2026

There is something quietly satisfying in the early stages of growth—the moment when a seed begins to declare itself, not yet fully formed, but already rich with promise. Microgreens occupy this fleeting stage, small and tender, yet densely packed with flavour and nourishment. It is perhaps surprising how many familiar plants can be enjoyed in this way: pea shoots, sunflower, garlic chives, nasturtium—each offering its own distinct character.

Sprouts, by contrast, are grown simply in water, their entire form—root, shoot and seed—edible. They are modest in appearance but remarkably sustaining, bringing a freshness that feels both immediate and complete.

This workshop offers an opportunity to consider these two forms of growth more closely: how they differ, what they offer, and how easily they can be cultivated at home. It is as much about understanding as it is about doing.

The session will include:
• A practical introduction to growing microgreens and sprouts
• A microgreens grow-your-own kit to take home
• The chance to taste a variety of samples and explore seeds
• Time for questions, along with tips and straightforward advice

The workshop is led by Hamsey Greens, well known to many as regular traders at the Wallington Farmers’ Market.

Held at The Lodge, Honeywood Walk, Carshalton
Saturday 30th May 2026
10am – 1pm

Here’s a talk with a difference—one that invites us to step into both the world of William Shakespeare and the landscapes that shaped it.
Carshalton EcoFair
Good folk, attend!

On Friday the 24th of April, within the Garden Hall, we present a discourse most rare—of William Shakespeare and England’s trees.

What oaks stood tall in his day? What willows wept? How did the forest and the field shape the poet’s pen, and find their way upon his stage? From Arden’s shade to Birnam Wood’s stirring, we shall wander through a landscape where nature and drama entwine.

Our guide for the evening is Hannah Leigh of Shakespeare’s Globe, a scholar well-versed in these leafy matters.

Join us at the Garden Hall, Ecolocal, The Lodge, Honeywood Walk, where doors open at 7.10pm, and the talk begins at 7.30pm. Pray arrive in good time, that thou may’st be seated with ease.

Entry is but £4, which includes tea and coffee to warm both hand and spirit.
Come, whether thou lov’st playhouse or countryside, and discover how trees once spoke through verse.

An evening of wit, wonder, and woodland awaits.

For directions and a map to guide thy journey, see here: www.ecolocal.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Garden-Hall-map-with-parking.pdf
