Tools for Self Reliance (Sutton Volunteer Group)

Tools for Self Reliance (Sutton Volunteer Group) – Based at The Lodge in Carshalton this local organisation sends kits of tools to developing African countries.  The Sutton Group are looking for a couple of volunteers on a Thursday between 10am and 2pm to assist with cleaning and refurbishing of tools to a good standard.

The work involves dismanteling of tools where applicable, thoroughly cleaning, repairing or sharpening as required and reassembling.  Other activities include reclaiming non-ferrous metal from scrapped items for selling, and sorting donations of tools.  Volunteers should be prepared to handle dirty and rusty tools and some lifting is necessary.

Covid 19:  Please note that to reduce the risk of Covid transmission indoors in the workshop we try to follow a social distancing policy.  However given the limited space within the workshop this is not always possible.  As such when speaking with potential new volunteers we they will wish to discuss your vaccination status and any particular vulnerabilities people may have.
