Next Currant growing workshop Saturday January 28th 2023

Currants (including blackcurrants, gooseberries, redcurrants and jostaberries) may be small, but they pack a real nutrition punch. They are an excellent source of fibre, minerals and antioxidants including vitamin C, yet fruit is rarely available in the shops.

Growing currants in the garden is very rewarding and all give excellent yields of fruit over many years for little effort. Bushes can grow large, and are ideal for allotments, but most currants can be trained to grow in smaller spaces and fit into a tiny garden.

Join us for a one-day workshop and learn how to grow these power-packed, tasty gems.

On the course you will;

– learn how to grow and prune currant bushes,

– find out about common pests and diseases and how to reduce damage without resorting to chemical sprays,

– practical experience in winter pruning a variety of currant bushes

Whether you have currants already and would like to know how best to take care of them, or you are wondering where to start, there will be something for you on this workshop.

Taking place at our community allotment in Carshalton, run by our friendly and knowledgeable tutor, you will receive practical instruction and lots of information to take away.

Bring your own gloves and secateurs if you have them and come prepared for any weather!
