The Environmental Fair is one of the best events in South West London showcasing local sustainability initiatives. On average around 10,000 people attend and enjoy a range of entertainment, food and stalls. The event is organised by EcoLocal with a team of volunteers.
Music
We have three stages with a range of music from local rock bands to acoustic folk music. Click here for line ups for each stage. All stages are powered by solar and wind!
The Music Cafe is run by Sutton Acoustic Music Club www.sutton-acoustic.co.uk
The Performing Arts Marquee is organised voluntarily by Ben and Tina Henderson.
Stalls
This year we have more stalls than ever before. There's a Farmers' Market area, jewellery, fair trade clothing, local craft, lots of local community group, a healing area with massage and other treatments, organisations offering solar panels, insulation, electric cars, car club, food growing courses and all sorts of information about what you can do for the environment.
Food
The fair offers lots of tasty food from Thai noodles to Indian bhajis, Jacket potatoes, pancakes, veggie burgers, Caribbean food, curry, and of course - ice cream. There is a café and a bar. The bar will feature a range of real ales from microbreweries, as well as organic larger and other drinks.
Farmers' Market stalls will be selling a delicious range of fresh local produce from strawberry tarts to pickles and sauces.
Visit the One Planet Food marquee to find out about how local people are growing fresh local produce in Sutton. Make your own bicycle powered fruit smoothie.
Children's Fun
Visit the sea zone - Oceans of Fun for Kids - with an obstacle course, help make a giant sea collage, a chance to make boats, fish and sea creatures, and you can even sail your boat! There is also a cycle obstacle course in the tennis courts, circus skills, face painting, see how much energy pedal power you can generate, have a go making a pot, make your own jewellery, play the recycling beanbag game, have fun growing your own food, or play the giant snakes and ladders game.
Sponsorship
Many thanks to this year's sponsors for contributing to the 2010 fair;
Sutton Arts Council
Discover Islam
London Councils in association with Creative Process and The Institute of Music and Technology
L&Q Housing Trust
Thanks to the Bandon Hill, Carshalton and Wallington methodist churches for running the children's area this year.
Would you like to lend a hand?
Over 50 volunteers helped run the fair in 2009. If you would like to give a hand we'd be delighted to hear from you on the above contacts!
How To Get There
By Bus: There is a FREE bus service to and from the fair running three routes throughout the borough. CLICK HERE FOR THE 2010 BUS TIMEABLE. Copies of the timetable available in libraries by 20th August.
By Train: The nearest railway station is Carshalton Beeches. Wallington and Carshalton Stations are further away but within 10 to 20 minutes walk. The 157, 154, 127, 407, X26 buses all stop nearby. Trains will not be serving Carshalton or Hackbridge stations due to bridge works. There is a rail replacement bus, but if you get out of the train at Sutton you'd be better off waiting for the FREE Fair bus service which stops outside the station and takes you to the park.
By Bicycle: Cyclism's Dr Bike attends the event & will provide free cycle parking by the Ruskin Road main entrance. Please bring a bike lock.
There is no parking on site for fair visitors - other than limited spaces for disabled parking (first come first served). The surrounding roads will have parking restrictions in place. We suggest you leave the car at home and take the free bus, enjoy a walk or cycle trip.
